SESSION 1

9.35 - 13.15

Moderator

Prof. Dr. ASLIHAN ÜNLÜ, Ozyegin University Faculty of Architecture and Design, Turkey

PANEL 1

Speakers:

ANGELO MAGGI

Associate professor Universitá Iuav di Venezia, Italy

Title: "Dialogue with the Earth"

Case Studies: Kalyon Karapınar Spp - Central Control Building; Bursa High Speed Railway Terminal

Speaker: CANER BILGIN | Founding Partner Bilgin Studio, Turkey

The lecture examines the intersection of nature, humanity, and technology through two architectural narratives. The Kalyon Karapınar Central Control Building highlights how architecture integrates with its geographical and environmental context, harmonizing with renewable energy infrastructure. The Bursa High-Speed Train Terminal, in contrast, addresses the operational and constructional complexities of an infrastructure project, demonstrating how geographical conditions and construction techniques shape architectural outcomes. Both projects explore the dialogue between architecture and the earth, emphasizing the influence of context on design.

Title: "Building Homes on Mars"

Case Studies: Kumru Flying Car; G.U.L.L.E. Underwater Drone; Mars Residential Architecture Timeline

Speaker: KURSAD OZDEMIR | Assistant Professor MEF University, Turkey

Selected projects present an insight into designing for ectreme environments. The project features habitable structures as well as a robotic module, designed to operate in challenging conditions. The lecture will share an insight into extreme environment architecture for hostile conditions on earth and beyond. The building materials, as well as the construction technologies serve as a basis of common understanding for the architects. The light and hi-performance plastic based materials for the aerospace and underwater designs mark the path of research and development that shall be presented.

Special Debate Pannel with:

PABLO ZAMORANO MOSNAIM

Head of Geometry and Computational Design Heatherwick, UK

PANEL 2

Speakers:

Title: "3D-printed mansonry"

Case Studies: Striatus and Phoenix bridge - NatPower H Refuelling station

Speaker: ALESSANDRO DELL'ENDICE | Post-Doctoral Researcher Block Research Group, ETH Zurich, Switzerland

The projects demonstrate how the combination of historical unreinforced masonry structural principles and 3D concrete printing can significantly enhance circularity. Additionally, they serve as an excellent example of a prefabrication system that can be precisely assembled on-site.The audience will experience the entire pipeline, from form-finding to construction, gaining insights into the computational infrastructure supporting the process and how design aspects were seamlessly integrated.

Title:"Alveosis, rhizome concrete shell"

Speaker: NILUFER KOZIKOGLU | Founder NKMTA, Turkey

ALI HIZIROGLU

Partner ERA Architecture, Turkey
